Community Engagement: Books & Bubbles
Books and Bubbles is a fun way for Youth Law Center staff to be more engaged in the community. We attend numerous events supporting families by providing free books and bubbles to the children and youth in attendance.
We believe reading is crucial for children and their development. Reading, especially aloud to children, supports the development of their language, literacy, cognitive and social-emotional skills. Families who read together have strengthened family bonds with each other. Children who regularly read books tend to perform better academically.
In 2024 we provided over 1,000 free books to children and youth. Our goal for 2025 is to distribute over 2,000 free books. We could not do Books & Bubbles without the support of the United Way of Central Iowa and their Annual Stuff the Bus Book Drive. We always welcome book donations especially of board books and graphic novels. We also appreciate pairs of books to promote the 2-4-2 Book Program for families involved in juvenile court.
