Erin Romar
Erin is an staff attorney with Youth Law Center. Erin specializes in representing children in the area of child welfare. She received her Juris Doctorate from Drake University in December 2017 and was admitted to the Iowa State Bar shortly thereafter. While at Drake Law School, Erin received a certificate in Public Service Law. Erin received her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Drake University in 2014.
At Drake Law School Erin spent a year as a student attorney in both the Polk County Attorneys Office as a prosecutorial intern where she successfully tried multiple jury trials, and over 50 bench trials. She also spent a year as a Student Attorney in the Children’s Rights Clinic representing juveniles in delinquency matters. Further, Erin was able to work with the Children’s Rights Clinic to support a measure for banning mandatory shackling of juveniles in courtrooms. She was able to present at two CLE’s in support of this measure.
While at Drake Law School, Erin worked closely with a group of professionals in the legal community to pass a law that would criminalize revenge porn. She helped draft the bill and spoke at both subcommittee and committee meetings at the Capitol. She successfully lobbied for the bill, where it received bipartisan support and passed in both the House and Senate before being signed into law by the Governor of Iowa.
Erin is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, including the Polk County Women Attorneys, the Young Lawyer Division, and serves as a board member with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Iowa.
