2-4-2 Book Program

2-4-2 Book Program

This program is meant to strengthen the relationship between a child and their parent when they have been removed from their parents’ care and custody.  Identical books are purchased so the child and parent can have the same book.  The parent calls the child’s caretaker at the same time each day and will read the book to the child over the phone or through a virtual platform.  In addition to maintaining the bond between the child and parent, it helps the child’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, speech and motor skills development.

These books are provided to the six Polk County, Iowa juvenile justice courtrooms to give to families involved in the child welfare system.  If you wish to donate books, please visit our Amazon Smiles Wish List (Youth Law Center)
